The State Department under Trump is bringing on Darren Beattie, a first-term Trump speechwriter, for a significant role just 15 weeks after he made controversial remarks on social media, including a tweet asserting that “competent white men must be in charge.”
Semafor reported on Sunday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio plans to appoint Beattie as the undersecretary of state for public diplomacy. This appointment comes nearly seven years after Beattie was dismissed from the first Trump administration for attending a conference that included white nationalist figures.
Beattie’s comments, including a post from October where he explicitly argued that “competent white men must be in charge if you want things to work,” have raised concerns.
