On Monday, Donald Trump went to a new low in his attacks on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Trump retweeted a doctored image of Pelosi and Schumer wearing traditional Muslim garb and standing in front of an Iranian flag.
The tweet Trump retweeted originated from a Twitter user with the handle “D0wn_Under.” The profile describes the user as “I identify as King and my pronouns are His Majesty, First of his name.” On his tweet, “D0wn_Under” wrote: “The corrupted Dems trying their best to come to the Ayatollah’s rescue. #NancyPelosiFakeNews.”
Trump’s tweet came amid a morning of frenzied tweets most of which were criticisms and attacks on Pelosi and Democrats. Trump is clearly infuriated by Pelosi’s criticism of the Trump administration’s assassination of Iran’s top general Qasam Soleimani in a drone strike.
In response to the killing of Soleimani a million Iranians had taken to the streets in Tehran in protest the U.S. killing their top military leader.
Iran’s admission of accidentally shooting down a Ukrainian jetliner has shifted citizens’ anger from the U.S. to the Iranian regime. All 176 civilian passengers aboard the plane were killed.
On Sunday, Nancy Pelosi appeared on “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos. Pelosi stated that there were many “different reasons why people are in the street” protesting in Iran.
Trump began tweeting immediately after Pelosi’s TV appearance and began retweeting posts that misinterpreted Pelosi’s statement, to make it appear that she said something completely different than what she had actually started.
Neither Nancy Pelosi or Chuck Schumer have responded to Trump’s tweet.
