On Wednesday, Donald Trump announced that his administration would be building a wall in Colorado.
Colorado does not border Mexico it isn’t even close to the border. Social media was quick to mock him for bragging about the “beautiful wall, a big one that really works” that will build.
“Do you know why we’re going to win New Mexico? Because they want safety on their border, and they didn’t have it. And we’re building a wall on the border of New Mexico and we’re building a wall in Colorado,” the president said as the crowd at an oil and gas conference cheered.
“We’re building a beautiful wall, a big one that really works, that you can’t get over, you can’t get under,” Trump added, as the crowd rose to its feet in support. “And we’re building a wall in Texas. And we’re not building a wall in Kansas but they get the benefit of the walls we just mentioned.”
Trump brought up the wall about 40 minutes into his speech at an annual shale conference in Pittsburgh.
Since Colorado does not border Mexico it’s difficult to decipher where Trump’s confusion came from.
Gov. Jared Polis was among many Democrats “correcting” Trump on Twitter: “Well this is awkward … Colorado doesn’t border Mexico. Good thing Colorado now offers free full-day kindergarten so our kids can learn basic geography.”
