Late Sunday night, Donald Trump tweeted that the United States will decide in 15 days what the government’s next move will be in relation to the country’s mounting battle against the coronavirus.
“WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!”
Last Monday, Trump issued new guidance that urged a 15-day period of collective action from Americans to help curb the spread of COVID-19. That 15- day period ends next Tuesday.
“We’re asking everyone to work at home, if possible, postpone unnecessary travel, and limit social gatherings to no more than 10 people,” Trump stated during a brief press conference he held last Tuesday.
“If we do this right, our country — and the world, frankly — but our country can be rolling again pretty quickly,” Trump added.
Trump stated on Sunday that major disaster declarations were currently in process for California, New York, and Washington. Stay-at-home orders have been issued for residents in multiple states and cities, affecting more than 101 million Americans. New York City has been the hardest hit state by the coronavirus. The death toll as of Sunday was 99 and more than 10,000 have tested positive for the virus.
As of Sunday, the United States has more than 35,000, and more than 470 people have died of COVID-19 in the U.S. reports Johns Hopkins University.
