Donald Trump shared a video by the Twitter account “Cowboys for Trump.” The speaker at the beginning of the video says that “The only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.”
Trump shared the video on his Twitter page just after midnight on Thursday with the caption, “Thank you, Cowboys. See you in New Mexico!”

It did not take long for Twitter users to point out that Trump just promoted the notion of “dead Democrats.” Despite the backlash, Trump left the video on his page.
The video was reportedly made about a week ago and caused quite a stir in New Mexico where it was filmed. The speaker in the video has been identified as Ottero County, N.M commissioner Couy Griffin. The Republican Party in N.M. has already condemned Griffin’s statements.
“The Republican Party of New Mexico wants to state for the record that any statements, whether in jest or serious about harming another individual are just plain wrong,” the party said in a tweet on May 20. The Young Republicans of New Mexico have called for Griffin to make a public apology.
At first, Griffin refused to back down and claimed he was being persecuted, but he later stated that he “could’ve chosen a different verbiage, you know. I guess I need to be more careful when I choose the words that I speak.”
However, comments he made, later on, appeared to indicate that he was not ruling out the idea of violence.
Griffin stated that a “Plan B” after “Plan A” of winning elections would be some kind of uprising. “If we have to get shoulder-to-shoulder and create posses and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our great sheriffs, we’ll fight you at the county lines, but we’re not letting you have our guns.”
Griffin also told the Daily Beast that certain top Democrats might be executed for treason. He mentioned Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam in his comments.
“You get to pick your poison: You either go before a firing squad, or you get the end of the rope,” Griffin said.
A petition has been created asking that Griffin be removed as commissioner. You can view that petition here.
