Michael Cohen said that Donald Trump urged him in 2012 that during a Manhattan district attorney investigation into property sales fraud, he should make sure Don Trump Jr. took the fall instead of Ivanka Trump.
Cohen told MSNBC that Trump gave him the order as his children were about to be indicted by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office in 2012.
“You may recall that there was the district attorney’s case here for Trump Soho where it was either Don or Ivanka was in very big trouble as a result of lying about the number of units that had been sold,” Cohen told MSNBC’s Alex Witt.
“And Donald said it to me – I mean I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t said directly to me – he goes ‘if one or the other has to go to prison, make sure that it’s Don because Don would be able to handle it.'”
Cohen spoke to MSNBC about the rising strain on the Trump family in the wake of the financial investigations into the Trump Organization and the January 6 disturbance.
Letitia James, the New York Attorney General, claimed her inquiry into the Trump Organization turned up “substantial evidence” of fraudulent and deceptive asset values.
Donald Trump and his children, Donald Jr. and Ivanka, were “closely involved in the transactions in question,” according to James, who has started legal steps to execute the subpoenas.
Meanwhile, Ivanka Trump has been invited to voluntarily cooperate with the January 6 committee examining the insurgency.
Cohen believes there is “no chance” that the former president will offer to cooperate with the investigations in order to get his daughter out of legal trouble, according to Cohen.
“Donald cares only about Donald, more than he would care about his children,” Cohen told MSNBC.
Trump’s old lawyer reportedly feels the Trump children’s chances of collaborating with either investigation are “slim to none.”
Michael Cohen was Trump’s personal lawyer for over a decade before being named in a federal investigation investigating hush-money payments to women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump in the 2000s.
Cohen pleaded guilty to multiple charges while working for Trump in 2018 and was sentenced to three years in federal prison.
Cohen has been working with authorities in multiple investigations investigating Donald Trump and the Trump Organization since that time. I wonder if they would have the same setup should any of the Trumps go to prison over the J6.
