Reportedly, Donald Trump was stopped from tweeting that actor Tom Hanks had died from the coronavirus. It is being reported that Trump and his staff misunderstood the news that Hanks had been “discharged” from a hospital in Australia the Courier-Mail reports.
Just last week Hanks announced that he and his wife, Rita Wilson were both infected by the coronavirus. Hanks was in Australia filming his new movie on the life of Elvis Presley.
Somewhere along the line, there was confusion within the White House when Trump was informed that Hanks had been “discharged” from the hospital reported Business Insider.
Officials close to Trump had no doubt that he would tweet about Hanks so they had US Embassy officials contact the Australian health authorities, who then confirmed that hanks had fully recovered from COVID-19.
U.S. officials were assured by a health official in Queensland, Australia, that Hanks was indeed alive and well.
“It turns out that the President nearly exaggerated Tom Hanks’ death,” a source told the Courier.
In Australia so far there have been 607 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. Most of the cases have been contained to New South Wales.
On Friday, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that “anyone who isn’t a citizen or resident of Australia or a family member of a citizen or resident will be barred from entering the country.”
Tom Hanks is one of the country’s most beloved actors and human beings!
