Donald Trump’s final holiday visit to Mar-a-Lago while he was still president put nearly $16,000 into his pocket. The Secret Service was charged $396 a night for hotel rooms during Trump’s Christmas visit to his private resort.
The cost of the rooms nearly doubled from the $205 limit a night under federal rules, which the White House could override. Trump, Melania, and Barron stayed at the resort for eight days. During that time, he played golf and continued to push false claims of widespread voter fraud.
While in the White House, Trump spent 142 days at his Florida property. He often referred to Mar-a-Lago as the “Winter White House.” Trump hosted foreign heads of state at the resort, played hundreds of rounds of golf, and even launched a controversial airstrike from the resort.
Trump’s 32 trips to Palm Beach as well as his trips to his other properties cost taxpayers a fortune despite promising on the campaign trail that he would be too busy to play golf or visit any of his properties. Records show that as of October, Trump’s properties had raked in $2.5 million from taxpayers and $5.6 million from his campaign and other fundraising groups.
At one point. Mar-a-Lago had charged the government $546 a night for Trump staffers.
Trump recently made headlines for crashing a wedding at the Palm Beach resort.
Donald Trump grabbed the mic during a wedding being held at his Palm Beach resort, Mar-a-Lago.
Trump crashed the wedding and seized the opportunity to steal the spotlight from the happy couple so he could brag on himself and belittle President Joe Biden.
Trump rambled on about President Biden’s policy toward China and Iran, as well as the situation at the border in Mexico.
“Y’know, I just got, I turned off the news, I get all these flash reports, and they’re telling me about the border, they’re telling me about China, they’re telling me about Iran – how’re we doing with Iran, how do you like that?” Trump stated as he stood in front of the band that was patiently waiting to play.
“Boy, they were ready to make a deal, they would have done anything, they would have done anything, and this guy goes and drops the sanctions and then he says, ‘We’d love to negotiate now,’ [and Iran replies], ‘We’re not dealing with the United States at all,’ Oh, well, they don’t want to deal with us.”
Trump withdrew from the deal between Iran and other leading powers meant to contain Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. Biden is currently working toward re-engaging the deal.
“And China, the same thing, they never treated us that way, right?”
Biden officials have stated that the US stands with allies in the Pacific in the face of Chinese military ambition. Throughout his presidency, Trump blamed Beijing for the COVID-19 pandemic. At one point Trump went as far as to state that if the Chinese were to invade “there isn’t a f*cking thing we can do about it.”
Trump repeatedly angered Asian leaders with racist comments including calling the novel coronavirus the “China virus” and “Kung flu.”
“You saw what happened a few days ago, was terrible, and uh, the border is not good, the border is the worst anybody’s ever seen it, and what you see now, multiply it times 10, Jim – he’s the only one I know who would handle the border tougher than me,” Trump rambled on during the wedding.
It is unclear who “Jim” was.
The Biden administration is currently struggling to deal with an increase in migrants at the southern border and the political fallout. However, the influx of migrants is currently lower right now than it was in 2019 under Trump.
“What’s happening to the kids, they’re living in squalor, they are living like nobody has ever seen anybody, there’s never been anything like what’s, and you’re gonna have hundreds, and you have it now, they have the airplane photos, the shots, and they call ’em shots, and these things are showing thousands and thousands of people coming up from South America and it’s gonna be, it’s just uh, look, it’s a disaster,” Trump continued as the happy couple waited for him to wrap up and the band could play and they could have their first dance as husband and wife.
Trump failed to mention his policy of separating children from their families at the border and the horrendous conditions they were forced to live in. The Biden administration is not separating families at the border.
