When Donald Trump left the White House on January 20, he boarded Marine One and traveled south to his Palm Beach resort, Mar-a-Lago.
Once he settled in he found being banned from both Facebook and Twitter limited his reach and he had to find a way to stay relative and get his opinions out to his supporters. Though his post-presidency life has so far been lower-key than his presidency it is doubtful that Trump created chaos is a thing of the past.
In order to stay politically active Trump has opened the “Office of the Former President” at Mar-a-Lago. Thanks to a recent tweet, by Trump’s former senior advisor, Stephen Miller, the world has gotten a look at Trump’s new headquarters.
At first glance, Trump’s space looks like a typical office and in several ways even resembles the Oval Office. Yet, if one takes a closer look, you’ll see it features some interesting décor.
Trump has reportedly settled into his new office where he spends the hours that he is not on the golf course or his private quarters.
If you examine Miller’s photo carefully you will see a small table with family pictures on it. Behind him on the wall is a picture of Mount Rushmore. Trump has repeatedly stated that he believes his likeness should be added to Mount Rushmore. Trump also has a chunk of metal sitting on his desk that is reportedly a piece of the metal used to build his now-infamous border wall at the U.S./Mexico border.
There is also, bizarrely, a small statue on a table behind his desk that appears to be Trump himself. There is also a pair of reading glasses on the desk. Trump reportedly needs glasses to read but refuses to wear them in public.
Now, if you look closely behind Trump’s phone you will see a bottle of Diet Coke that clearly has been opened. Now, everyone knows Trump only drinks Diet Coke, however, just days ago Trump called for several companies to be boycotted because they spoke out against Georgia’s new voting laws. One of those companies was Coca-Cola. Clearly, Trump hasn’t started his boycott yet.
Though Trump’s choice of décor is odd it is also exactly what we have come to expect from him.
“The Office of the Former President” will be run by former Trump staff and aides.
It will be responsible for “managing President Trump’s correspondence, public statements, appearances, and official activities to advance the interests of the United States and to carry on the agenda of the Trump Administration through advocacy, organizing and public activism,” according to a statement.
Of course, Trump wants to use a logo that would associate him with being a former president, but he may have gone too far
It has been pointed out by legal experts that Title 18 U.S. Code § 713 says: “Whoever knowingly displays any printed or another likeness of the great seal of the United States, or of the seals of the President or Vice President of the United States … for the purpose of conveying … a false impression of sponsorship or approval by the Government of the United States … shall be fined under this title or imprisoned … or both.”
Will the president be pursued for possibly violating this law? Time will tell.
Just as Trump saying farewell for the last time to the country, he said, “We will be back in some form”. His comment left many to wonder what exactly he meant by that, then just days later Trump launched the Office of the Former President.
