A turn has been reported in the long-running and wide-ranging probe of U.S. Attorney John Durham.
News reports tell that Durham’s investigation is now squarely focused on the Clinton Foundation.
That organization a non-profit outfit set up by former First couple Bill and Hillary Clinton. The foundation formed in 1997. With a range of global initiatives carried out in the name of public health.
This alleged corruption chronicled in a 2015 tome by Peter Schweizer called, ‘Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Rich’.
The U.S. Attorney from Connecticut reportedly switched gears and changed course apparently aiming for them. As told earlier today in The New York Times.
The New York Times told:
Durham was seeking documents and interviews about how federal law enforcement officials handled an investigation around the same time into allegations of political corruption at the Clinton Foundation, according to people familiar with the matter.
It was not clear whether Mr. Durham’s investigators were similarly looking for violations in the Clinton Foundation investigation, nor whether the comparison would be included or play a major role in the outcome of Mr. Durham’s inquiry.
Durham tasked with authority to conduct his inquiry by United States Attorney General William Barr. Which stems from the FBI delving into Pres. Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. As part of their counterintelligence efforts labeled the so-called ‘Crossfire Hurricane.’
The Department of Justice has already secured one guilty plea. Ex-FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith copped to falsifying a FISA court document used to obtain a surveillance warrant.
Durham’s team dealing with some hurdles along the way. Prosecutor and team member Nora Dannehy, stepped down this summer supposedly under pressure to deliver for the DOJ ahead of November 3rd.
AG Barr has indicated there likely will be more to follow. Barr leaving things open before the coming election.
When Will The Durham Investigation Be Done?
Back in July, the Department of Justice just gave an official update on U.S. Attorney John Durham’s Russian investigation.
Kerri Kupec, a top spokeswoman for the agency, told Fox News this week that a report is not “the goal” of the criminal investigation, but it will nevertheless “be really pivotal to the restoration of that one tiered system of justice.” She added, “There is a story to be told there. The American people deserve resolution, and frankly, justice deserves resolution.”
United States Attorney General William Barr had expressed, “In terms of the future of Durham’s investigation, he’s pressing ahead as hard as he can, and I expect that we will have some developments, hopefully before the end of the summer.”
“But as I’ve said, his investigation will continue. It’s not going to stop because of the election. What happens after the election may depend on who wins the election.”
The shift to the Clinton Foundation may prove fruitless, especially if the scope of the investigation changes after the election per Barr’s words from July.
Only time will tell if this new direction pays off in the probe.
