In the United States, the first reported case of the coronavirus was reported back in January. The case involved a man from Washington State that had just returned from a business trip to China.
Today the United States has nearly 1,300 reported cases. Thirty-eight Americans have died. Two deaths were in Florida, four in California, one in New Jersey, one in South Dakota, and the remaining 30 were all in Washington State.
Forty-six of the reported cases were passengers of the cruise ship Diamond Princess. Another cruise ship, the Grand Princess had 21 coronavirus cases.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has labeled the outbreak a pandemic.
The NBA, MLS, and NHL have suspended their seasons. The NCAA has canceled the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments. The Boston Marathon has also been canceled.
