As Americans all across the country cancel summer plans that they had in order to stop the spread of COVID-19, Donald Trump will be leaving the White House to enjoy a vacation in New Jersey.
Federal spending data show that the Secret Service has already ordered the bullet-proof resistant glass and party tents to be used at Trump’s Bedminster golf club. Trump has often referred to the 535-acre Trump National Golf Club as the “summer White House.”
Trump’s summer plans will cost taxpayers $42,350 for party rentals and more than $9,600 for ballistic glass to be installed. The Secret Service uses the tents as screening areas for vehicles as well as visitors. Other expenses will include paying the Secret Service, rooms, food, and golf cart rentals.
As we move towards summer the CDC is telling people to travel only locally and only for “essential reasons.” Essential reasons include medical or home care, groceries, and going to work for essential workers.
Back in April. Ivanka Trump ignored federal guidelines against unnecessary travel and stay-in-place orders as she left Washington D.C. for the Bedminster golf club. She made the trip with her husband Jared Kushner and their three children.
Donald Trump also refuses to follow his own administration’s guidelines on wearing masks. Because scientists have found asymptomatic carriers of the virus, who may not appear sick but can infect others public health officials have asked everyone who leaves their house to wear a mask to help prevent the spread of the virus.
